- First consultation 45 Minute Session
- Follow-up appointments 30 Minute Session
On your first consultation, you will need to provide some information about your background, medical history and the nature of your complaint. This is so that the best possible care is provided and tailored to your requirements. Emily is registered with the Data Protection Act 1998. Information that you supply will remain confidential and will only be disclosed with your permission.
Your Medical History
To determine whether osteopathic treatment is suitable for you, a comprehensive medical history will be taken. This will include questions about your lifestyle and body systems such as the digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular system. If it is necessary you may be referred to your doctor for further tests such as x-rays and blood tests.
Physical examination & postural assessment
As with any medical examination this may require you to remove certain items of clothing. Please wear something that is appropriate and in which you are comfortable. You may wear shorts and a t-shirt. You may bring a friend or relative to the consultation to act as a chaperone. Examination of your standing and sometimes sitting posture will occur. You will be guided through a series of movements and your osteopath will use touch to determine the areas of sensitivity and tightness in order to make an accurate diagnosis.
Discussion of your diagnosis, treatment plan & prognosis
Emily will discuss with you what is the most likely cause of your complaint and explain approximately how many treatments may be needed in order to resolve or improve your condition.
Same day treatment
Once the examination is complete, patients will generally have their first treatment during the same visit. If your complaint or medical history is complex you may need to make another appointment for treatment.
Advice & tailored exercise plan
Depending on your complaint you may be given instructions on the use of ice or heat applications, avoidance of certain activities and postural advice. You may also be given a personalised exercise plan to follow in order to maximise treatment benefits. You may feel a bit sore or stiff following treatment. This is a normal healthy response and should not be long lasting.
Scheduling your next appointment
In some cases, it may be necessary for a series of appropriate appointments to be made. In most cases, you should allow between 3-6 treatments for optimum results. Your treatment will be arranged at your convenience.
Cancellation Policy
We request that a minimum of 24hours notice is given prior to your appointment for any cancellations or changes. Failure to do so will result in your full consultation fee being charged.
